About the Philippine Community Coordinating Council

The Philippine Community Coordinating Council (PCCC) was established in 2002. It has been based in Osaka city since its establishment.

The 2016 PCCC Constitution provides that it is “committed to serve as a coordinating body among the Filipino and Filipino-Japanese communities and organizations in Western Japan and as a link between these communities and organizations and the Philippine government offices, and Japanese and international organizations.” (Article 2. The PCCC has the task of
1. Coordinating with leaders and/or authorized representatives of the Filipino and Filipino-Japanese communities and organizations in Western Japan;
2.    Acting as intermediary between the Philippine Consulate General Osaka-Kobe and the  member-communities and organizations;
3. Promoting the welfare of Filipinos, including migrants, in Japan and undertake activities/projects that can enhance the image of Filipinos in Western Japan and pave the way for a multicultural society. (based on Article 2 Objectives, 2016 PCCC Constitution)

The PCCC has more than twenty member-communities and organizations in the prefectures of Hyogo, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Shiga. It has honorary member-communities and organizations in the prefectures of Okayama, Gifu and Aichi. It also has individual members (Filipinos and Japanese).

It has been holding activities since 2002 to bring Filipinos from the different communities and organizations together. During the
2015-2017 period, the PCCC undertook the following activities:
1.   Consultation/dialogue with
a.    Filipino communities (both member-communities and organizations and non-member communities) - Kakogawa Catholic Church Community and Shiga Filipino Christian Community;
b.  Different groups related to Filipinos (Japanese not-for profit organizations (NPOs) and Filipino religious missionaries network)
c. Philippine government offices in Osaka (Philippine Consulate General, Department of Tourism and the Philippine Trade and Industry Center (PTIC);
2.   Seminars and workshops to address important issues such as the  seminar labor rights and workshop on disaster preparedness;
3.   Organizational strengthening
a. Adoption of rules on financial, documentation, communication, and membership acceptance;
b.  Revision of the By-Laws – adoption of the revised By-Laws (2016 PCCC Constitution);
4.   Special projects
a.  Documentation of the Filipinos in western Japan (recording the lives of Filipinos in Kansai);
b.  Socio-cultural activity to reintroduce the Filipinos to the larger Japanese society (Kapihan at Talakayan sa Kansai, 2017);
5. Major activities
a.    Jamming for a Cause” (a socio-cultural activity);
b.    Sportsfest; and
c.    Christmas party.
